Elijah Calls them Sois!

 

When learning a new language, you will always have things you say wrong.  Sarah and I have had many, but Elijah has had his fair share as well.  These tiny shells on some of Elijah's favorite things to find on the island.  He and his friends have spent hours finding hundrends of them.  Elijah calls them "sois."  The Akolet word, "soi" is not the name of the shell but rather the word that means, "here it is."  So how did this misunderstanding happen?  His friends have always called out "soi" letting Elijah know that they found one. But Elijah took it to mean that the shells themselves are called "soi."  All the Akolet people love to hear him say it and continue to love to hear him say Akolet words even if they are used incorrectly!
