Eye contact

One of the hardest things to get used to in PNG is no eye contact with the opposite sex. When a national lady is talking to Ryan she will often look at the floor or wall. The same with the national men talking to Sarah. The other day Sarah shook hands with a national man and he turned his head to look over his shoulder. This is honestly the correct way to behave in the culture. But it is not easy. The people here are very understanding when we make a mistake. They know we are not from this culture. If they have any doubts all they have to do is look at us. They will realize rather quickly we are not from around these parts!
